It is crucial to have patience during the job search process. Jake Bobo, 17, the son of Carolyn and Keith Bobo of Baker City, was named a 2016 National Agricultural Proficiency Award winner in the specialty animal production category. Bobos BHS classmate, Kourtney Lehman, competed in the public speaking event at the convention. Bobo was the only Oregon FFA member to earn the distinction among the 47 national proficiency awards presented, according to the 89th National Convention & Expo results posted on the FFA website at ffa.org/events/convention/2016-results The website states that Bobo got his start in the beekeeping business with money he earned mowing lawns. In one year, his bees travel from California to Idaho to Washington and on to Montana before returning to Oregon, the description of his project on the website states. Bobo sells the honey he extracts before ending a production year with his bees. Bobo was one of four finalists in his proficiency area, competing against FFA members from California, Florida and Minnesota, Bibiana Gifft, Baker FFA adviser posted on Facebook. Lehman, another BHS senior, was a semi-finalist in the Prepared Public speaking competition and presented a flawless speech! Gifft stated in a Facebook post Friday afternoon. Twelve BHS students attended the national convention, as did a Parliamentary Procedure team from Powder Valley. Bobo and Lehman qualified for the national contests by winning state championships in their categories at the state convention in Corvallis last spring. Lehman also won two state titles in Ag Marketing along with her teammates, Melissa Foltz and Morgan Scilacci, and the Job Interview contest, but had to choose just one in which to compete at the national convention. What a convention it has been for Baker FFA! Gifft added on her Facebook post. Kourtney and Jake are so thankful for the support back home, and from our cheering section weve had all week at convention! See more in the Oct.
